ST IVES, UK, Nov 18, 2008 - Colortrac, an ENERGY STAR partner and the leading innovator in wide format scanner design, has announced that its range of affordable new SmartLF Ci 40 high definition, large format technical document scanners are now ENERGY STAR qualified products.

ENERGY STAR and the ENERGY STAR mark are registered US marks. By qualifying to use and display these marks, the SmartLF Ci 40 meets the strict energy efficiency guidelines set by the US Environmental Protection Agency and the EC (European Community) ENERGY STAR Board for the prevention of greenhouse gas emissions. In voluntarily signing up to meet these requirements, Colortrac has made the reduction of electricity costs by improved energy efficiency and the protection of the environment from harmful emissions a key feature of its latest SmartLF wide format scanners.

The ENERGY STAR qualified SmartLF Ci 40 large format scanners are Colortrac's newest models designed to meet the needs of AEC, CAD and GIS professionals scanning technical documents. Aggressively priced, the network-capable SmartLF Ci 40 can be run from a simple centrally mounted touch pad. When not in use the SmartLF Ci 40 sleeps in low power mode, ready for instant action at the touch of a button. Its instant-on capability provides a "green" on-demand walk-up scanning option for cost-conscious CAD users in small offices or the departments of large corporations.

There are three new ENERGY STAR qualified 40" wide SmartLF Ci 40 models. All give quality conscious professionals the best results in high speed monochrome scanning with the additional option of two levels of fast color scanning. All will accept A0 / E-size AEC, CAD and GIS engineering drawings, sketches, blueprints, sepias, detailed maps and large color posters. The Colortrac SmartLF Ci 40 range's intuitive walk-up design and ENERGY STAR compliance ensures users get quick and easy, high definition, cost-effective large format scans instantly when needed at any time.

About Colortrac SmartLF Ci 40

The new ENERGY STAR qualified SmartLF Ci 40 scanners are optimized for high speed, accurate scanning of large format technical documents such as CAD drawings, blueprints, engineering schematics, well logs and maps, as well as any other document with fine image details and lines.

Unlike conventional scanners with multiple rollers, the SmartLF Ci 40 has a unique design which uses a single, precision-engineered drum or Advanced Single Roller Paper Transport system. As a result, it benefits from intuitive face-up, front-loading of documents and a unique and easy-to-collect front document ejection system which distinguishes it from traditional multiple roller, front-feed large format scanners which all exit from the rear.

Technical documents are gently but firmly drawn through the SmartLF Ci 40 scanner by its unique solid roller technology which provides reliable feeding of flexible originals. Remarkably, this also includes very thin newsprint, a medium which is problematic for the great majority of traditional wide format scanner designs. The SmartLF Ci 40's contact image sensors (CIS) are mounted in a segmented injection molding suspended within the hood of the scanner. The shape of this sub-assembly gave rise to Colortrac's description of it as a "clamshell design". By positioning the scanned document closely around the drum with optimum contact between it and the CIS arrays the SmartLF Ci 40 obtains improved image accuracy and focus.

By working closely with its supplier to perfect new custom designed CIS modules with 2D LEDs, Colortrac added yet another innovative design feature to the SmartLF Ci 40. Its 2D LEDs strobe bi-directional RGB light onto the original scanned document from both sides of the rod lens array, as opposed to only one side in traditional scanner designs. This increases and improves the light levels incident on the document and results in superior quality images that are sharp on technical drawings with reduced shadows and wrinkles while offering bright, vivid colors on maps and artwork.

The Colortrac SmartLF Ci 40's unique clamshell design, front-exit, the use of the latest CIS sensor with 2D illumination and advanced digital electronics makes it the 21st Century's first radical innovation in large format scanning. Supplied with SmartLF All-in-One scan, copy and email software, the SmartLF Ci 40 has the most competitive price in large format scanning today. The recommended list price of the monochrome 600dpi optical resolution SmartLF Ci 40m (monochrome) scanner, including SmartLF All-in-One scan, copy and email software is an aggressive USD 6,725.

About ENERGY STAR

ENERGY STAR is a US Environmental Protection Agency and EC (European Community) program helping manufacturers protect the environment by building superior energy efficiency into their products. ENERGY STAR qualified scanners automatically enter a low power "sleep" mode after a period of inactivity. By automatically placing idle equipment into a low power mode energy is saved. As a result equipment also runs cooler and lasts longer. Governments, institutions and professionals now look for the ENERGY STAR mark when investing in new large format scanning equipment.
