ESPOO, Finland, Sep 19, 2007 - One of the fastest growing design, engineering and management consultancies in the world, WSP Group, has signed a framework agreement with Tekla Corporation on the purchase of Tekla Structures software licenses as well as co-operation in technical and developmental issues. The group chose Tekla Structures as its strategic tool for structural design and detailing tasks, for both steel and concrete. The agreement expands Tekla Structures' scope of use to bridge design; all present and future projects will be modeled with Tekla Structures.

In addition to signing the frame agreement, the WSP Group is set on continuing active cooperation with Tekla in software development issues. Future cooperation will cross geographical as well as sectoral borders. The two companies have achieved significant best practice improvements in Finland and Sweden, for example through the recent ProDOC output development project, and will now extend the practice more widely within the WSP network, for example in China and South Africa. WSP is an important Tekla client with solid built-in knowledge and many qualified "superusers" supporting each other within the company.

"Currently WSP has a number of international projects with potential for further development, and at the same time our objective is to promote global cooperation between WSP offices worldwide. Tekla Structures can help us reach this objective as the software has been our main 3D design tool since 1996," says Rikard Appelgren, Managing Director of WSP Europe and Sweden.

"For example in the design of landmark bridges, our international bridge teams will in future be able to use the same design and modeling tools. We will also continuously develop these tools together with Tekla to improve our service level further," continues Matti Mannonen, Managing Director of WSP Finland Oy. "In addition to direct business benefits, WSP aims at attracting the best available human resources by providing cutting-edge tools in an interesting and rewarding working environment," he adds.

"This framework agreement means that WSP is now one of the largest engineering companies in the Nordic area that has chosen Tekla Structures as their main all-in-one design and detailing tool for both steel and concrete structures. We at Tekla are proud of this business relationship and are looking forward to supporting the expansion of BIM knowledge within WSP's global network," says Thomas Grönholm, Sales Manager at Tekla Building & Construction, with satisfaction.

Tekla Structures

Tekla Structures software is a building information modeling (BIM) tool that streamlines the delivery process of design, detailing, manufacturing, and construction organizations. While integrating openly with architectural models, its strength lies in the contractor end of the process. Thousands of Tekla Structures software users in more than 80 countries have successfully delivered BIM-based projects around the world.

Tekla Structures' ability to process extensive amounts of data enables the creation of detailed 3D models that can be applied to every stage of design and construction. From planning and design development through to fabrication and installation, Tekla models naturally develop in parallel, representing the "as-built" condition of a building. Tekla Structures effectively integrates into any best-of-breed software-driven workflow, while maintaining the highest levels of data integrity and accuracy. Such collaborative workflows are the key to minimizing errors and maximizing efficiency, resulting in high profitability and on-time project completion. Tekla Structures encompasses specialized configurations for structural engineers, steel detailers and fabricators, precast concrete detailers and manufacturers, as well as contractors.
