Tekla Among 9 IAI-Certified Vendors for IFC 2x3 2nd Step
ESPOO,
Finland, May 29, 2007 - Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) standardization
proceeds further. International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI) has
certified nine software vendors that support the 2nd step of the IFC 2x3
standard. Three additional software systems have passed the 1st step
certification. The IAI International Council is responsible for developing
the open IFC format that enables communication between different
construction software, communication within structural design, and
communication with the software of other building and construction
disciplines.
The certification meeting that was held in Espoo, Finland, 21-23 May
2007, continued testing the software to support the IFC 2x3 format for
Coordination Views.
The following software systems, which have demonstrated continuous
improvements in the IFC implementation and resolved issues from the last
certification meeting held in the USA in March, were confirmed the 2nd step
IFC 2x3 certification.
- Active3D (Archimem Group).
- AutoCAD Architecture & Revit Architecture (Autodesk).
- Bentley Architecture (Bentley).
- DDS-CAD Building Services (DDS).
- MagiCAD building service engineering (Progman).
- Nemetschek Allplan & Graphisoft ArchiCAD (Nemetschek Group).
- Solibri Model Checker (Solibri).
- Tekla Structures (Tekla).
The following software systems passed for the 1st step IFC 2x3
certification: SCIA.ESA PT (structural analysis), CADview3D (streaming
viewer for Oracle database solutions) developed by Norconsult, Facility
Online (FM solution) from VIZELIA, and VectorWorks (CAD for architects) from
Nemetschek Group.
IFC certification is based on a facilitated self certification process,
and the participating companies are committed to improving their software
further. The recent meeting agreed on how to develop the IFC-based workflow
in the construction industry. An IFC-based workflow starts from the
architectural design and continues to structural modeling and analysis as
well as to building service design. From the analysis, the building
information returns back into structural modeling and needs to be
coordinated among all disciplines. IFC certification advances building
information modeling (BIM) by enhancing the standardization of information
flow between the software systems used in the industry.
The meeting participants represented software vendors and organizations
from several countries: Autodesk (US), AEC3 (Germany), Bentley (US), Vizelia
(US), Archimen Group (France), Robobat (France), Forschungszentrum Karlsruhe
(Germany), Nemetschek (Germany & US), RIB Software (Germany), SCIA
(Belgium), TNO (The Netherlands), Graphisoft (Hungary), DDS (Norway),
Norconsult (Norway), Kymdata (Finland), Progman (Finland), Solibri
(Finland), and Tekla (Finland).
International Alliance for Interoperability
The International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI) is a global
alliance of organizations dedicated to bringing about a coordinated change
for the improvement of productivity and efficiency in the industries of
construction and facilities management. The organizations within the
alliance are members of regional chapters. Currently, the IAI has chapters
serving Australasia, the Benelux countries, China, the French-speaking
countries, the German-speaking countries, the Iberian countries, Italy,
Japan, Korea, North America, the Nordic countries, Singapore, and the UK.
There are 447 organizations participating in the IAI. More information at

About IFC
The IAI issued the first, full release of its Industry Foundation Classes
(IFC) information model in January 1997. Several further releases have been
issued since. IFCs have been endorsed by the International Standards
Organization (ISO) as a Publicly Available Specification (PAS) under the
label ISO/PAS 16739. Issued in October 2006, the IFC 2x3 marked a major
change in the way that IFCs are developed and released. It has created a
framework for the development of models that can progressively extend the
range and capability of IFCs in a modular way. More information at
