Arup Signs Agreement with Tekla on BIM
Supply
LEEDS,
UK, Jan 27, 2010 - Arup recently signed a global framework agreement with
Tekla UK Ltd covering the supply of the Tekla Structures BIM (Building
Information Modeling) software. This agreement cements their close working
relationship, including the supply and maintenance of the software,
development of a link to the Oasys GSA analysis & design software, and a
working group to help develop project workflows between consultant and
specialist sub-contractors.
In today's difficult financial environment, it is becoming increasingly
important that companies bring added value to a project by collaborating
closer with other stakeholders. A multi-disciplinary consultancy, Arup's
usage of the Tekla Structures software increased significantly during 2009
and its newest project, The Pinnacle building which will be based in London,
recently won Tekla UK's BIM competition.
Arup is recognized as one of the world's leading consulting engineers
working on many prestigious projects around the globe, including the
Swiss-Re building and the Pinnacle in London, and projects further afield,
such as the Sydney Opera House, the Beijing Olympic Stadium, and the Aldar
Properties HQ in Abu Dhabi.
"The agreement with Arup recognizes the Tekla Structures BIM solution
being a major advantage to any engineering consultancy. We are offering them
the ability to bring value to a project that perhaps no other solution can
provide", says Andrew Bellerby, Managing Director of Tekla UK. "Building
Information Modeling processes on projects are becoming more commonplace,
and the Tekla solution allows Arup to collaborate not only with the
architect and MEP (Mechanical, Electrical and Plumbing) but also to work
more closely with the specialist sub-contractors."
Tekla will be working with Arup to implement the Tekla BIM solution
further, using many years of industry knowledge to help develop Arup's
processes to try and remove the current obstacles that are prevalent on
projects and stall the implementation of BIM as a process.
Jonathan Lock, Global Account Manager for the Tekla software at Arup
comments: "The further investment in Tekla software by Arup shows how
popular its BIM solution has become with our staff, especially for large and
complex structures where it really does stand on its own. It's important for
Arup to look outside our regular scope of work, and we feel that the Tekla
solution really allows us to do that. Coupled with the fantastic level of
support we receive from Tekla, this creates a strong partnership between the
two companies, and we look forward to developing our joint offerings and
being able to support a complete BIM workflow from design through to
manufacturing and beyond".

Tekla Structures
Tekla's technology creates new opportunities for the construction
industry. Tekla Structures, the most advanced BIM (Building Information
Modeling) software on the market, provides an accurate, dynamic, and
data-rich 3D environment that can be shared by contractors, structural
engineers, steel detailers and fabricators, as well as concrete detailers
and manufacturers. The highly detailed as-built structural models created in
Tekla Structures enable the highest level of constructability and production
control. Centralizing model and non-model based data into the model allows
for more collaborative and integrated project management and delivery. This
translates into increased productivity, elimination of waste, and an
enhanced value for structural modeling.
