MILAN, Italy, Nov 11, 2008 - CAM, an Italian company specialized in building assembly lines for the automotive industry, has chosen ThinkDesign to speed up the design process and streamline the production of hammings and welding cells. The company offers a “turn-key” product: from design to control, to assembling the requested machinery at the client’s plant. It develops welding cells and equipment, checking fixtures for sheet metal items, hammings for moving parts (doors, bonnet etc) and assembly lines.

CAM works in Italy with clients of the like of Fiat, Ferrari, Maserati, Giugiaro, and internationally with PSA Peugeot Citroën, Porsche and Valmet Automotive. In particular, collaboration with French company PSA Peugeot Citroën in 2001 sparked CAM’s decision to streamline procedures by adopting a software program for flexible design that was easy to use and that allowed for quick integration into the company’s processes.

Following careful analysis of competitors’ offer available on the market, CAM has chosen ThinkDesign, think3’s CAD solution, which proved to be extremely helpful in machinery design and hammings in particular. ThinkDesign is flexible, easy to use and tailored to meet the needs of manufacturing industries. “Our design process is currently entirely in 3D. Creating a new machine is a process that requires a great deal of commitment in terms of costs and human resources,” said Massimiliano Monastero, Technical Manager at CAM. “Therefore it is extremely important to streamline procedures implementing flexible and effective solutions. ThinkDesign allows for increased productivity thanks to its cutting edge technology, which enables full customization to the entire productive process.”

ThinkDesign is the designer's ideal partner for defining mechanical assemblies, breaking assemblies down into component lists, assessing the overall dimensions of components and assemblies, checking the feasibility of a shape sketched and drawn by the designer or drafted using a special function.

“ThinkDesign has helped streamline the implementation of projects while ensuring compliance with set deadlines”, said Monastero. “think3’s software proved to be perfect for the design of hammings and welding cells. Thanks to the flexibility of the tool, at CAM we were able to integrate the libraries with specific elements for the hammings, which are fundamental to streamline and speed up the entire process. Moreover, thanks to the use of hyperMILL, a machine system developed by Open mind (a partner of think3), CAM was able to establish direct communication between design and production, eliminating conversion time. In addition, using of the same interface in the two environments allows designers to better understand developer needs and minimize errors.”
