MILAN, Italy, May 30, 2008 - MATISA, a global leader in the design and manufacturing of machines dedicated to track construction and maintenance, chose think3’s solutions to optimize its product development process. In order to maintain its European leadership and enhance its presence in Japan and new strategic markets (Brazil, Russia, China and India), MATISA needed to increase its productivity, reduce its time to market and share information between departments. To address these needs, the company turned to think3, the only supplier able to offer a technology that combines product concept, development and implementation design environments as well as a partner of MATISA since 1992, and implemented its CAM/CAM solutions. In its production site in Crisser, Switzerland, MATISA currently leverages 60 ThinkDesign licenses, 53 thinkteam licenses, 100 thinklight viewing devices, 2 thinkreal licenses and two product configurators.

The integration of think3’s CAD/CAM solutions allowed MATISA to optimize the management of product-related documents (texts, drawings, charts, etc.) and to create a single shared database for the management of document creation and usage practices and to share product information in a quick and accurate way. The implementation of ThinkDesign enabled a company-wide use of 3D engineering, while thinkteam allowed the company to share product data among departments. This way, departments – such as development, post-sale or provisioning – can re-use filed information in real time. With the implementation of this process, the company and the engineering team improved their interaction quality and their productivity. In addition, the ability to share information among departments increases standardization and reduces low value added activities. “think3 is a winning choice” comments Remy Charrette, head of the Design Department and Coordination Servicing for MATISA. “The solutions were implemented quickly and produced remarkable results in terms of optimization of our product development processes”.

MATISA adopted the following solutions:

  • ThinkDesign – for mechanical engineering, it addresses the flexibility and productivity requirements of manufacturing companies, all in an intuitive and easy to use product.
  • thinklight – available with ThinkDesign and specifically designed for viewing operations, it allows users to view, enlarge and measure the contents of various file types (think3, DWG, DXF, STEP, VDA and STL). In MATISA, departments (marketing, support, manufacturing, provisioning, machining, control, assembly etc.) leverage this tool to consult shared documents.
  • thinkreal – a rendering solution integrated in ThinkDesign. It allows to create extremely realistic images. MATISA adopted thinkreal and two product configurators that are still being tested for carriages and overall machine viewing.
  • thinkteam – the ideal product for the management data related to products that are subject to ongoing modifications or customizations. It manages any kind of file or information, regardless of its format and original application. All items and part lists created with thinkteam are automatically transferred to MATISA’s ERP.
