SOUTHFIELD, MI, May 27, 2008 - Leading CAD/CAM software developer Alphacam, has strengthened the customer support team for its metal, wood and stone working software with the appointment of Norman Crofton, Ian Newman, Ian Park and Brian Spencer.

Based in Coventry, the four new support engineers will become integral elements of a 10- strong dedicated team for Alphacam and Cabinet Vision products. Reporting to David Oxley, director of operations for Europe, Middle East and America (EMEA), the new team members bring 50 years combined experience within the CAD/CAM, CNC programming and engineering industries to their new roles.

“We see these appointments as a vital part of our future growth and look forward to having them on board,” says Martin Measures, Alphacam’s UK sales director. “With more than 2500 customers in the UK and Europe our support team can now provide unparalleled levels of service. Their excellent experience and widespread industry knowledge will be instrumental in enabling us to not only maintain, but also continue to grow our client base.

“The recruitment of Norman, Ian, Brian and Ian clearly underlines our commitment to back the technical excellence of our CAD/CAM software with the highest levels of customer support.”

Biographical notes

  • Norman Crofton: Norman brings a wealth of valuable experience to the team through his association with Alphacam beginning in the mid eighties when he was in charge of programming and running a Wadkin CNC router. Following a number of years in similar roles within production teams, he was then employed by Wadkin as a commissioning engineer where he used to demonstrate, install and commission new CNC routers. Included in this role was also running CNC programming and operating training courses. Norman then diversified into a role as a support engineer, responsible for CNC router calls on a busy support desk. It is from here that he joined the Alphacam support team in January 2008.
  • Ian Newman: Ian joins Alphacam from Mettis Aerospace, where he was a production engineer. Following years of previous experience within the CAD/CAM industry, Ian wanted a career move into a role where he could use his knowledge and expertise to assist others; his role at Alphacam allows him to do this.
  • Ian Park: With 20 years experience with CAD, CAD/CAM and CNC programming, Ian has extensive expertise to bring to the team and to Alphacam. Specific experience in programming Alphacam 3D 5-axis software for multi axis CNC machinery also made him perfect for the role. Prior to joining Alphacam Ian worked in Italy for 10 years as a CAD/CAM programmer and technical sales support.
  • Brian Spencer: Brian brings more than six years’ support engineering experience to his new role. Prior to this, he worked for McGeoch Technology in the company’s technical engineering department. Responsible for machine loading, routing, progress chasing etc, his previous position was as assistant manager. In addition, Brian benefits from knowledge and expertise within production, planning, CNC Programming and training environments, making him an ideal choice for his new role within Alphacam.
