DARMSTADT, Germany, Jan 8, 2008 - With its engineering data workflow solution OpenDXM, PROSTEP AG has established a quasi-standard for the exchange of product data in the automotive and supplier industries. Leading automotive OEMs and almost half of the 50 largest system and component suppliers worldwide use the data exchange manager to automate their internal and external data exchange processes. At the BMW Group and the three automotive divisions at Continental AG, OpenDXM has been in use practically since the first version was introduced onto the market almost exactly ten years ago.

"As one of the very first users, we would like to extend our most sincere congratulations to PROSTEP on the occasion of this anniversary. OpenDXM has become an indispensable tool without which we would not be able to work together with our development partners and suppliers as closely and as efficiently as we do today", says Holger Bruckner, team leader CA/PDM Supplier Integration Processes and IT Development and Purchasing division at the BMW Group.

In 1997, when OpenDXM was first used at Continental AG’s three automotive divisions, there were just two locations, ten integrated suppliers, 50 jobs and a data volume of less than one gigabyte per year. Last year, the automotive supplier used the data exchange manager to handle 92,000 jobs with a data volume of approximately 830 gigabytes. Over 45 locations and 750 customers/suppliers are integrated in the system. Another 250 exchange partners use the supplier portal to access data made available by OpenDXM. "If that isn’t proof of the performance capability and expandability of this solution, I don’t know what is", says Rudolf Dotzauer, head of CC-DX/MCAD at Continental.

"We recognized back then that digital vehicle development and the growing outsourcing of development tasks to suppliers would lead to a dramatic increase in the volume of data exchanged and the number of exchange operations performed, an increase that would subsequently be impossible to handle with the manual organization of data exchange", commented Dr. Bernd Patzold, CEO of PROSTEP AG, on the 10th anniversary of OpenDXM. "That is why we have developed a flexible, open and scalable solution which is based on well-established standards and is always on the cutting edge of technology."

PROSTEP has just launched the new Version 6.1 of OpenDXM onto the market. This version now also provides support for 64-bit operating systems. It also offers even greater ease of use for both end users and system administrators. And that is just an intermediate step: "Next spring we will also be setting new standards with regard to data security and the protection of intellectual property with the GlobalX edition of OpenDXM", announced Dr. Patzold.
