MINNEAPOLIS, MN, Feb 22, 2008 - Laser Design Inc., the leading supplier of 3D laser scanners for more than 20 years, announced that Direct Dimensions Inc., a major provider of 3D laser scanning services and products based in Baltimore, MD, has signed on as an authorized reseller of Laser Design systems and software. Direct Dimensions has customers in virtually every industry and uses various laser scanning technologies to digitize all types of parts, from small to very large, and simple to complex.

Direct Dimensions employs the Laser Design 3D scanning equipment, including the new SLP-2000 (8" laser line) along with a Faro arm, to perform many reverse engineering and inspection projects for their customers. "When we use a piece of equipment or technology and have repeat customers, sometimes the customers want to own a system if they have many uses for it," said Michael Raphael, president and chief engineer of Direct Dimensions. "We have ongoing, long-term relationships with our customers, and they trust us to keep them updated with new technologies and developments to improve their businesses." Direct Dimensions' engineers hands-on experience allows them to assist their customers with system selection, training, service, and project advice, making sure the system is a good fit for their applications.

Many of Laser Design's systems are easily adaptable to multiple platforms which add versatility to the products. The patented line-laser technology in the Laser Design scanners provides ultra-fast digitizing speeds of up to 75,000 points per second along with excellent accuracy. With many of Direct Dimensions' customers needing to scan large parts, high scanning speeds are essential. Raphael commented, "Over the years the frequency of applications related to cars, aerospace, and other larger parts has increased. Many of our current customers will benefit greatly with the new technology we can offer through the Laser Design systems. They offer significant time savings on large objects, being 2-4 times as fast as other laser scanners."

Direct Dimensions' strategy is simple: Provide the best 3D scanning services for the widest range of customers. However, DDI knows that they can't possibly service all their customers' projects, so they help companies adopt the technology and become self-sufficient. Direct Dimensions is still available for more advanced projects and consulting should the need arise.

Direct Dimensions has a strong presence as an expert resource for R&D in military projects, R&D labs, and government organizations. "Often we show them [the military organizations] the technology to gage the level of interest. Eventually, many of our technologies are used in classified projects, which also opens doors in the civilian marketplace," continued Raphael. "We are looking forward to representing the innovative Laser Design 3D laser scanning systems within all our markets."

About Laser Design, Inc.

Laser Design, Inc. has been the leading supplier of ultra-precise, 3D laser scanning systems and services for over 20 years.
