Delcam to Launch PartMaker in Germany at Turning Days
BIRMINGHAM,
UK, March 20, 2007 - Delcam will launch its PartMaker software for the
programming of multi-axis lathes with live tooling and Swiss-type lathes in
Germany at the
Turning Days event to be held from 12th to 14th April. The
demonstrations on the Delcam stand will be complemented with live machining
demonstrations on the stand of machine tool manufacturer Maier.

Delcam’s PartMaker now incorporates full machining simulations
Turning Days is located in Villingen-Schwenningen, in the middle of the
turned parts manufacturing cluster in the Schwarzwald-Baar region and close
to Switzerland, the home, of course, of the Swiss-type machine. . “Many of
leading builders of multi-axis lathes and Swiss-type lathes are based in
Germany and Switzerland, while the Schwarzwald-Baar region includes a
significant number of end-users for such machines,” said Delcam GmbH
Geschäftsführer Robert Aulbur. “We are confident that we can repeat in
Germany the success that PartMaker has achieved in North America.”
PartMaker is a knowledge-based machining system, allowing it to provide
substantial gains in programming efficiency by remembering the tools,
material and process information necessary to machine individual part
features. PartMaker thus relieves the user from the need to re-enter the
same feature information for subsequent parts. It also improves productivity
by placing the emphasis on tool management functions, including allowing the
simultaneous use of multiple tools on suitable equipment.
PartMaker pioneered a Visual Programming Approach for programming
multi-axis lathes with live tooling, a system for which the company holds
two U.S. patents. It makes extensive use of pictures to help the user
describe tools, part features and machining data, and so is easy to learn
and quick to use. For example, synchronization of tools working on multiple
spindles is achieved with only a few mouse clicks.
This faster programming means that set-up times for new projects can be
reduced considerably. “Companies that invest in turn-mill equipment are
normally looking to increase productivity by combining operations on a
single machine that would have been carried out on a number of different
pieces of equipment,” explained Herr Aulbur. “The potential problem is that
every minute when the new machine is not making parts is equivalent to
several conventional mills or lathes being out of production. The penalties
for delays in generating programs are, therefore, much more severe and,
equally, the benefits of PartMaker’s faster programming are that much more
important.”
