Engineering Software Up 8% in 2007 for Africa - Cambashi
CAMBRIDGE,
UK, Mar 26, 2008 - According to the latest research figures released by
engineering and enterprise IT applications market research and analysis
consultant, Cambashi, the demand for engineering applications software in
Africa in 2007 was worth €108M, an 8% increase over 2006. Cambashi forecasts
that by 2010 it will grow to €147M.

2007 African engineering applications software market
€108M
Market concentrated in a few countries
Cambashi states that engineering activities tend to be confined to a
small number of the more developed African countries. In 2007, South Africa
accounted for €54M, half the African demand for all engineering applications
software. In manufacturing engineering applications, it accounted for over
70% of all African demand.
In 2007, the North African countries of the Maghreb, many of which are
oil rich, accounted for a third of the African demand for all engineering
applications software. They also accounted for about 40% of all African
demand for architecture, engineering and construction (AEC) applications as
their national oil companies increased engineering activities.

Growth in African engineering applications software
market
After South Africa, Egypt is the largest single country market in Africa
for engineering applications with 11% of the regional total. Infrastructure
development, especially for a strong tourism industry, means a buoyant
demand for AEC engineering applications.
Alan Behrens, business development director at Cambashi, commented, “The
African engineering applications market today is quite modest. However, the
recent developments in South Africa and Northern Africa show that the
potential for growth is there.”
Growth prospects
Cambashi forecasts that the whole African demand will grow 9% to €118M in
2008. With so much of the market concentrated in South Africa, the growth of
Africa as a whole depends to a large extent on the growth in South Africa.
In 2008, economic difficulties in the wider Southern Africa region lead to
Cambashi’s forecasts that the South African market will grow 7% to €58M.
Sub-Saharan Africa, of which Nigeria is the largest component, will enjoy
the region’s highest growth. Cambashi forecasts that growth will increase
from 13% in 2008 to 19% in 2010.
