Cambashi Analyses US Engineering Software Market
CAMBRIDGE,
UK, Feb 15, 2008 - According to the latest figures released by engineering
and enterprise IT applications market research and analysis consultants,
Cambashi, in 2007 growth in demand for engineering applications software was
13%, the fastest rate in five years.

The growth in demand from different regions reflects the rebalancing of
the world economy. Growth in Asia Pacific (APAC), and Europe, Middle East
and Africa (EMEA) especially Eastern Europe, was much faster than in the
Americas. In 2008, as a weaker dollar makes US manufacturing more
competitive, Cambashi expect a resurgence of demand for mechanical
engineering applications, but weak demand for architecture, engineering and
construction (AEC) applications is likely to continue.
Cambashi predicts that this regional growth pattern will continue in the
next three years with above-average increases in APAC, declines in growth in
EMEA and the Americas stable at a lower level.
Growth in demand to continue
Whilst the peak growth in demand was probably in 2007, Cambashi does
expect demand to continue to grow in all regions. Worldwide, Cambashi
expects growth to moderate, falling back to 8% in 2010. All growth figures
quoted are in US$ terms.
Nick Ballard, senior consultant at Cambashi, comments: “Growth in the
Americas will be outpaced both by growth in EMEA and APAC. This will
increase the importance for software product companies of satisfying the
specific demands of emerging economies, such as pay as you go pricing. In
turn these developments could benefit all users”
APAC leads the way
With growth of over 20% in 2007 to $3.6bn, APAC now accounts for 24% of
the worldwide market. All the leading providers of engineering applications
saw the potential and, over the last few years, invested heavily in sales
and educational promotions.
Japan still remains the largest and most important region in APAC. It
still accounts for nearly half of total spending. Increasing penetration of
Chinese and Indian markets has started to boost their share of demand. By
2010, Cambashi predicts that China will account for 26% and India 8% of APAC
end-user expenditure.
EMEA surges in 2007
In 2007, EMEA surged ahead to grow 16% to $6.1bn from growth of around 6%
in the previous two years. It is now the biggest regional market accounting
for 41% of worldwide demand. Central and Eastern Europe grew at 22%, while
growth in Western Europe was closer to previous years. Cambashi expects this
trend to continue with the emerging economies growing at around 14% by 2010;
while overall EMEA growth will reduce to single-digits.
Americas treads water
In 2007, demand in the Americas was $5.1bn, a growth of 6% following two
years of growth around 12%, It now accounts for 34% of the worldwide market.
The USA accounts for 84% of the Americas’ expenditure. Americas outside the
US is growing at over 10% a year, and Cambashi expects this to continue
through to 2010. However, overall growth in the Americas depends on what
happens in the US.
Difficulties in the US housing market and a difficult economy generally
will depress demand for engineering applications. However, spending stimuli
such as public spending on infrastructure, and a more competitive US
manufacturing sector with a weaker dollar will mitigate the situation.
Cambashi expects that there will be a small growth in US demand through to
2010.
