CDV CodeBook v9 for Project Management Supports Revit
PORTSMOUTH,
RI, May 21, 2009 - CDV Systems, Inc., a provider of Autodesk Revit
Architecture, Structure and MEP implementation, training, project review,
consulting services and courseware to the national and international AEC
market, announced that CodeBook, the software healthcare, design
professionals use to manage their project programs and equipment, now works
with Revit.
CodeBook is a standalone database tool that links a project program &
equipment requirements to a Revit model. Once linked, CodeBook allows the
project manager to monitor the progress of the project comparing the
“required data” in CodeBook to the “designed data” in the Revit model.
Parameter data can flow back and forth between programs allowing CodeBook to
manage the program / equipment needs and exporting to access reports while
Revit manages the graphic data. Since a large portion of the data is now in
CodeBook, the demands on the Revit model are reduced bringing the file size
down to a more manageable level; and Revit healthcare projects are notorious
for being very large and cumbersome models.
For the past twelve years, CodeBook has been used by architects,
engineers, contractors and owners using Autocad, ADT, Microstation and
MicroGDS for projects world-wide. A recent Codebook project to note was done
by HOK for the BIM award winning project Royal London Hospital’s new
building: a 905-bed facility composed of a pair of 20 story towers
containing 6,225 rooms across 1.2 million sq ft of floor space with a total
construction cost of $ 1.2 billion.

“While all these BIM implementation strategies and the benefits realized
through them are undoubtedly impressive, what was really unique about the Royal
London Hospital project was the integration of a software called Codebook, which
encapsulates key government-sanctioned medical information and requirements.
This software is linked to the principal ADT models, allowing the designers to
constantly check that room layouts and services fulfill the requirements of
medical need. It is this integration of the program requirements into the design
process, facilitated through BIM, that won the Royal London Hospital project the
BIM Award for the category of Support for Human Use and Innovative Program
Requirements Using BIM.” 2007 Third Annual BIM Awards, Part 2 - AECbytes
"Building the Future" Article (September 13, 2007)
Veteran writer Martyn Day describes CodeBook in an "AEC Magazine" article as
a product that "provides a way for the designers to link the complex project
program to the plans generated by the designer." According to Day, CodeBook's
greatest strength is its ability to "analyze designs against the designer's
original program using component-level drawing management." CodeBook’s current
client list includes, HOK LONDON, RTKL-UK Ltd, Anshen+Dyer, Ryder HKS, Parsons
Brinckerhoff, Bovis Lend Lease, Skanska Construction, Aedas Construction,
Building Design Partnership Holdings, Newcastle-Upon-Tyne Hospitals, Belfast
Royal Victoria Hospital and City Hospital National Health Service Trust to name
a few.
