Cross London Rail Links Gets Bentley Enterprise License

PA, Sep 27, 2007 – Bentley Systems, Incorporated today announced that Cross
London Rail Links Ltd (CLRL), tasked with promoting and developing a new
West-East railway route through London called Crossrail, has joined
Bentley’s Enterprise License Subscription (ELS) program.
Crossrail is a key part of London’s plan for growth over the years ahead
and is forecast to add £30 billion to the United Kingdom’s economy over a
60-year period. It will provide easier, quicker, and more direct travel
options across the capital city via new rail lines in tunnels. In addition,
the new lines will ease many transportation headaches, encourage
regeneration and social inclusion, and provide access to thousands of job
opportunities.
At the heart of CLRL’s design capability are more than 200 engineers and
other disciplines, all of whom use MicroStation, Bentley Architecture,
Bentley Structural, and Bentley Mechanical software for railway design work.
The recent co-location of the design teams has resulted in the organization
moving to a more flexible method of licensing, and in June of this year,
CLRL entered into an ELS agreement with Bentley.
Clinton Leeks, corporate affairs director for CLRL, said, “The ELS
agreement supports our design teams in delivering a cost-effective design
for this major new rail project. It provides us with the facility to use a
wide range of Bentley software in our railway design activities across all
design consultants. This simplification of licensing helps us focus on our
core activities of railway design and delivery, in the knowledge that our
software licensing requirements are being met.”
The Bentley ELS program grants organizations unlimited access to the
entire ELS software portfolio for a fixed annual fee. The portfolio covers
all the architectural, engineering and construction (AEC) and geospatial
software needs of subscribers, providing building, plant, civil, and
geospatial solutions and supporting a managed environment for their AEC and
geospatial IT.
The total coverage at a fixed, discounted price means that organizations
can increase their software productivity and reduce their total AEC and
geospatial software costs simultaneously. The unlimited access streamlines
AEC and geospatial software administration while the annual term simplifies
budgeting and accounting.
Immediately, the Bentley ELS has given CLRL a quick, cost-effective way
to offer its engineers creative technical alternatives and solutions in
support of the Crossrail project.
The Bentley ELS helps organizations such as CLRL become more agile. The
project starts can happen faster and teams can reconfigure more quickly for
project delivery. No-charge pilots allow new technology to be infused into
projects more readily. The ELS agreement has been extended to include
delivery partners, extending the agility and multiplying the benefits.
