EXTON, PA, July 8, 2008 –Bentley Systems, Incorporated today announced the release of Bentley Gas V8 XM Edition facilities design software for gas distribution networks. Bentley Gas helps engineers and GIS professionals in gas utilities and contractors serving utility owner-operators design, document, and manage gas distribution networks more efficiently by unifying CAD and GIS capabilities, and by providing a built-in, intelligent, gas distribution data model.

The streamlined workflows that result ensure high-quality infrastructure data, reliable as-built data, and significant time savings in the creation of new designs and maintenance of existing infrastructure. Because Bentley Gas V8 XM is based on Bentley Map – Bentley’s software for managing the world’s infrastructure in a geospatial context – it provides all of this technology’s core capabilities, including map management, thematic and overlay analysis features, business and topological rules enforcement, and highly accurate editing capabilities.

In addition, it provides the same powerful 3D visualization capabilities of MicroStation, as well as network tracing, leak analysis, and an interface to Bentley sisHYD for hydraulic modeling and analysis procedures. It also can export data to Bentley PowerMap Field to support field technicians with work packages and redlining capabilities. Bentley Gas V8 XM integrates with Oracle Spatial in a two- or three-tier mode and, when deployed with Bentley Geospatial Server, supports enterprise GIS for long transactions with both optimistic and pessimistic locking.

Robert Mankowski, Bentley director, Geospatial Product Management, said, “The release of Bentley Gas V8 XM further extends Bentley’s commitment to advancing GIS for infrastructure. It delivers spatial data seamlessly and transparently to gas utility engineering teams when they need it, increasing organizational efficiency, decreasing errors, and improving data quality.

“Take, for example, the software’s advanced network tracing and leak analysis capabilities. With Bentley Gas V8 XM, reported leaks are quickly correlated to network infrastructure, speeding repair and replacement activities, limiting service interruptions, and increasing profitability.”

Bentley Gas V8 XM Edition is delivered with a prebuilt data model that empowers users to completely customize and extend its functionality as required through easy-to-use administration tools. The data model is supported by inference-driven connectivity that automatically establishes network relationships as the user lays out new facilities. The data model supports comprehensive and customizable attribute sets for classes of network objects, and the logical connectivity model is persisted in DGNs or relational databases, including Oracle Spatial.

Added Mankowski, “As powerful as Bentley Gas V8 XM is, municipalities and private owner-operators of gas utilities will have even more to look forward to in the months following its initial release. The software soon will be integrated with the forthcoming Bentley Expert Designer Gas to deliver on-the-fly design cost estimation and design-cost comparison, further enhancing organizational efficiencies.”
