Bentley Cancels Annual User Meeting, Conference

Bentley's big annual event, this year scheduled for May in Charlotte, a victim of bad economy

The last annual user meeting was in Baltimore in 2008 and drew over 2,000 attendees, a record number according to Bentley.

Bentley sent the following message to TenLinks:

Because you have expressed interest in the Be Awards program, we wanted you to be among the first to know that we are making some changes to the awards program and conference. For many years, Bentley has brought together its users from around the world to hear the latest about Bentley solutions, products, thought-leadership initiatives, and to share best practices. Now, many of our users are telling us that their 2009 travel budgets are tightly restricted, yet they still value the unique content that Be Conference provides. Faced with an unprecedented economic environment, Bentley’s response is immediate and twofold: the Be Conference is becoming the “Be Connected” seminar series and the Be Awards of Excellence is becoming the “Be Inspired Awards.”

The “Be Inspired Awards”

The Be Awards of Excellence will continue in 2009, but the format of the awards ceremony is changing. We have renamed the Be Awards program the Be Inspired Awards to celebrate the inspiration demonstrated in our users’ projects. This September, in Charlotte, North Carolina, we are holding a one-day Be Inspired Awards event to recognize the 2009 Be Inspired Awards finalists and present the winners with their awards. Due to the later date of the awards ceremony, the deadline for Be Inspired Awards nominations is being extended to May 15, 2009.

The “Be Connected” online seminar series

Instead of a face-to-face gathering for the annual Be Conference this May, the event is moving online via the Be Communities website. Bentley will be offering the Be Conference content—which in previous years has been presented at a single time—as a series of solution and product seminars streamed online. This will bring infrastructure best practices and Bentley product updates to desktops worldwide, leveraging technology for a more sustainable experience. Called Be Connected, this online seminar series will run June through November of 2009, and will offer best practices sessions and product updates, including presentations from Bentley users and other infrastructure thought leaders.
