3Dconnexion Updates Driver for SketchUp

FREMONT, CA, August 31, 2010 - 3Dconnexion’s latest driver update brings intelligent 3D navigation and a streamlined 3D mouse user interface to Google SketchUp. These new enhancements give the SketchUp community increased control of their designs and their workspace, whether redecorating a living room, designing a new piece of furniture or modeling a city for Google Earth.

New 3D Mice Enhancements Help Google SketchUp Users Build Smarter and Faster

3Dconnexion’s new intelligent 3D navigation feature automatically follows the point of interest to continuously determine the optimal center of rotation when controlling spin, tilt, and roll motions. The latest driver update also streamlines the 3D mouse user interface with a pop-up menu to centralize all 3D mouse related options. In addition, new “helicopter” mode provide a more consistent navigation experience with Google Earth.

New benefits include:

  • Auto Center of Rotation: Sets the center of rotation to a point on the model that is nearest to the display screen center, which is helpful at higher zoom levels, or designers can pick a new center of rotation point on the 3D model to suit their individual design task

  • Centralized Pop-up Menu: Accessed via the Menu or Panel button on the 3D mouse, the pop-up menu groups functions and hides unnecessary details, minimizing screen clutter for a clearer view of the SketchUp design space

  • Helicopter Mode: Similar to navigation in Google Earth, this allows users to fly-through simple floor plans or entire city blocks with unmatched ease – tilting the camera up/down or left/right allows users to examine details while moving around a design

In addition to the navigation and control benefits inherent in 3Dconnexion 3D mice, these new enhancements are currently available for Windows, and will be available for Mac in September, via a free software update. This update is available for the entire 3Dconnexion product line, including the Professional Series with the SpacePilot PRO (MSRP $399) and SpaceExplorer (MSRP $299), and the Standard Series with the SpaceNavigator (MSRP $99) and SpaceNavigator for Notebooks (MSRP $129).
