I awoke at 4:15AM as a crack of thunder rattled the glass of the
hotel. Lighting had hit the tree across the street and set it on fire. Rain
poured and the lightning storm continued. I rolled out of the hotel as fire
trucks pulled in to put out the fire. By that time, the rain had subsided. It
quickly turned into a beautiful sunny day.
The country roads of Ohio offer great scenery, lush forests,
wildflowers, paddocks with beautiful horses--but you dare not look because the
next big pothole could swallow your bike. Repaired potholes are equally deadly
as the uneven, raised edges deliver bone-jarring shocks to the bike and the
body.

Ohio offered some of the roughest stretches of road so far. One deep pothole
shown here but there were continuous stretches of cracks/potholes/repairs that
covered hundreds of feet at a time and covered the width of the road. Luckily,
tires, bikes and I survived intact.
