Ohio has hills. Who knew? Route 603 has some of the biggest roller
coasters and some of the steepest hills since Missouri. Okay, I might not have
been wheezing but I did have to use my lowest gear to make it up over the top of
some of the bigger hills.
The headache that disabled me last night was gone this morning. Let
me quick fill you in on yesterday. My bike had been making a weird tapping
sound. The bottom bracket, a likely culprit, was completely overhauled on the
road but did not fix the problem. A local bike shop rose to the occasion. The
gears on the back wheel were loose. The freewheel assembly, which allows the
bike to coast, was almost jammed and had to be replaced. Today, the noise was
gone. Whew! It's great to have a smoothly operating bike again.
Day 24 has been updated with pictures, so
check it out if you're interested.
Today's ride was a leisurely pace. I've had a growing concern that
I would regret not taking my time and enjoying the trip itself, focusing on just
rushing to the next hotel. So today, at least, I was intent on shooting the
flowers, if not smelling them.

Wildflowers aplenty in the lush greenery of Ohio

On a day that I purposely slowed down to enjoy the views, even a dam gets posed

The highlight of the day was when Owen Wengard picked me up at the hotel
and treated me to an apple dumpling with ice cream, a local specialty. I also
had the honor of meeting his parents as well as being driven around to see the
local scenery. Thanks, Owen!
