This was the first and only rest day of the trip. And there was a lot to be
done.
Breakfast wasn't the usual shovel-it-all-in at the buffet, which is what I
normally do so I can stay pedaling longer without needing a break. Today was
just 2 small bagels, yogurt, juice and coffee.
Bike cleaning followed thereafter. The bike was covered with road grime from
two days of rain riding. I also oiled the chain and the shifters.
I did a little bike ride around town just to keep things limber. It was a
leisurely 22 miles around town. I didn't wear my heart rate monitor and stopped
several times to snap pictures of flowers, the state capitol and so on. I tried
not to tax myself at all and was even passed by a local biker.
I rented a car to get food, recovery snacks, vitamins, batteries, bike
supplies, and more. I had made a fairly long list in the last couple of days for
when I'd have time to shop. It was quite a luxury to have an automobile. I was
going 35 mph into the wind with out any problem!
I also managed to do the laundry but had to rush to return the rental car. I
missed the 6PM closing and without a drop off slot or another local office, I
have to leave the keys at the hotel and trust that they will be able to take
care of things. With that little snafu, I only had time to get some
fast food for dinner.
The day went fast. It's already 10PM--I better get ready for bed.
