I've reached my half way point here in Topeka. Tomorrow is a day to rest and
recover. I've been looking forward to it even though it will be filled with the
mundane tasks of eating, shopping, bike maintenance and laundry.
Kansas uncovered its big surprise today: hills! Who would have thought? The
flat plains that cover most of the state to the west gave way to rolling hills.
None of them were to tall but it was just one roller after another.
Rolling hills lower the average speed as you can never fully regain the speed
you lost gong uphill on the downhill. But on the plus side, it's quite a bit
more scenic than the flat land.
It turned out to be a pretty nice day even though the morning greeted us with
thunderstorms for the second straight day. But once, again, I waited until the
worst was over and the sun came out.
