I'm feeling much better today--most of the discomfort has passed except for
occasional waves of gas pains. Of course, it doesn't help to be in a head down,
bent-over position but that can't be helped. I have to keep riding to the next
town. It's not coming to me.
Again, it was a "short" day. I am considering every thing under a 100 miles
short. The wind was once again helping although not as strongly as the last two
days. The fact that my average speed is increased over yesterday is more a
testament to my return to health than tailwind.
So far, the west to east direction, following the jet stream, has paid much
dividends. However, I've heard that local conditions can vary and winds in the
Great Plains area often shifts wind direction.
I stay tuned to the Weather Channel to see the conditions ahead paying
particular attention to rain and wind direction/speed. I don't expect the
favorable winds to last forever.
Not much in the way of sights. I passed a Sod House Museum but it was closed.
I peeked inside to see a house with walls made of sod from the pioneering days.
Trees were scarce.
I also passed Pawnee Rock, which I was told served as a lookout point for
early settlers. It was scarcely a 100 feet high. It should have been called Puny
Rock. I didn't detour for that one.

Another towering silo that seems to be the main feature of every town we have
passed in this area of Kansas, this one in Garfield. Not the tornado warning on
tower on the foreground. When that sound, residents should find shelter in their
basement but one local said they like to run outside to see to see it.
