One Las Vegas is plenty but it turns out there is another in New Mexico. I'm
in it. Across the street is a very small Chinese restaurant and a truck stop I
was told would be out of everything. Nothing else within walking distance--and I
don't want to bike another mile tonight. I had to carry by bike and gear up to
the second floor of the hotel and my legs cried. A thousand miles already and
many more to go...

It's all starting to look the same. Note the rumble strip--if you hear a car on
it behind you, get ready to bail over the guard rail!
Had a flat today (my second). This one could have been serious
as it was the front tire and it happened on a fast down hill section. Luckily I
was able to stop with some air still in the tire.
The miles went pretty fast today but with the vast and mostly
featureless desert, it's getting to be a chore. I'm sure it'll change soon as
will my mood.
But lest I forget, there was a cute little town of Madrid
(accent on the first syllable, unlike the capital of Spain) which had the cutest
coffee shop. I sat outside in what was really beautiful, pleasant weather and
enjoyed a sticky bun and a hot chocolate. It was a moment to savor. That reminds
me to stop and smell more roses.
