Finally, the 100 degree days are gone--for good, I hope. Today was cool most of
the day. In fact, the temperature went as low as the 50's during the final
descent of the day.
And what a glorious descent it was--15 miles of smooth black top road with
multiple switchbacks. I had to keep totally focused on the road as I swung my
bike back and forth on multiple switchbacks. None of it was particularly steep
but long sections between turns could build up quite a bit of speed.

The road from Jerome to Cottonwood offers scenic panoramas -- if you dare to
look between twists and turns.
There were 3 big climbs today that added up to 11,000 feet of climbing. I took
it easy the first 2 climbs but by the third climb, I wanted to see what I had
left in my legs. I was encouraged to find that even on the fourth day of this
trip I could maintain a level of exertion that was on par with a good training
ride (as judged by my heart rate monitor).
My route takes me through several small towns. I'm getting to see so many
little things I would never see otherwise, like if I was traveling by car. And
I'm not talking about just road kill. I met a man who rides his moped around a
little Arizona desert town with a parrot on his handlebars. Many people ask
where I'm going, about my bike, etc.

A little store, long abandoned, but still very well preserved in the Arizona
desert near Wickensburg, AZ
