CONCORD, MA, Feb 9, 2009 - SolidWorks confirmed that it has added Christine Washburn as VP of Marketing. The post had last been held by Rainer Gawlick, who left the company late in 2008. She reports to Jeff Ray, CEO.

Christine most recently worked with local New England VCs on marketing strategies for early stage software ventures. She started her career on Capitol Hill as a lobbyist (she prefers "advocate"). Over the next 20 years, she worked with a number of software companies largely in the security and network management industries, including Microcom (modems, remote control software, now part of HP), Chipcom (smart hubs, now owned by 3Com), Concord Communications (IT performance management software, now part of Computer Associates), SilverBack Networks (service provider management software sold to Dell Computer).

She admits to being new to the CAD market but is "using the blogs and online publications such as TenLinks to get up to speed." She says her "extensive channel background" lets her appreciate the value of the SolidWorks VAR network.

Asked about her biggest challenge at SolidWorks, Christine responds:

"The biggest challenge for everyone right now is to do more with less and prioritize those projects that are most meaningful for users. I'm fortunate to have inherited a company culture that values technical excellence as well as ongoing dialogue with the customer. My most interesting challenge is how to leverage the 500,000+ users in our various communities so that we can all be successful together in designing very cool, high-quality products that get to market faster and at optimal price points. Alignment and constant dialogue between sales and marketing is critical as well and very important to me at SolidWorks. "
