PORTLAND, OR, Feb 22, 2008 - Autodsys, Inc. today announced AcceliCAD 2008 V3 which adds powerful new features for third-party developers to extend the display capabilities of AcceliCAD.

Custom Entity Display allows a plug-in application for AcceliCAD to override display properties for any entity and control how it is displayed on the screen and printed. Instead of creating custom objects as is necessary in some other CAD packages the application developer can instead use the primitives already built into the program such as LINEs, ARCs, CIRCLEs, and POLYLINEs. That means there is no need to define grip points or editing operations for the entities because those functions are already built into AcceliCAD. Instead the application developer can focus solely on display of the objects. This technology could be used for example to display a line as a three-dimensional wall. The user could then BREAK, TRIM, or EXTEND the wall just as he would a LINE object.

Announcements regarding products that use this technology are expected in the near future.

“AcceliCAD has been accepted around the world as a powerful alternative for those looking for a wealth of features at a low cost”, said Ronald Prepchuk, President of Autodsys. “Custom Entity Display enhances AcceliCAD viability as an alternative development platform.” Users wishing to try a pre-release version may download it from website.

Key enhancements coming in AcceliCAD 2008 V3:

  • VBALOAD - loading of multiple .vbi files at the same time
  • Editing of proxy objects
  • Reference editing of blocks
  • Custom Entity Display - used by third party applications to extend the power of AcceliCAD.

This is in addition to the many enhancements included with the original 2008 release:

  • Full Compatibility with AutoCAD 2008 DWG file formats
  • Batch plotting interface allows the plotting of multiple drawings and layouts in one step. Different paper sizes, scales, and pen settings can be applied to each plot. Each batch plot set can be saved to a file for reuse the next time a set of printouts is required.
  • System variable editor puts all of the drawing and system settings in one place with tooltips and help strings to make it easier to understand each setting. Configurations can be imported and exported to disk so that they can be transferred between drawings or different computers to improve compliance with office standards
  • Spell checking (available if Microsoft Word is installed)
  • Enhanced attribute editing with the new EATTEDIT command
  • Enhanced block creation with the new BBLOCK command
  • New Toolbar pull-down for setting viewport scale
  • New commands BTRIM and BEXTEND accept blocks as boundaries for trimming and extending entities
  • New objects snap “FROM” locates entities relative to a point
  • Quick dimensioning feature will dimension an entire part or plan in one easy step. Methods supported include continuous, baseline, staggered, ordinate, radius, and datum point.
  • Dimension-driven editing, allowing a user to modify a dimension and see the object change to match the new dimension.
  • Entity information window that displays relevant information about an object when the user places the cursor over it. This feature also works with ArchT objects to display the object type, style, and size.
  • Snapping to model-space entities from paper-space viewports
  • Polar angle tracking
  • Floating prompt menus that put command options right at the cursor location
  • Heads-up keyboard entry that allows angles, distances and text to be entered without looking at the keyboard.
