SAN RAFAEL, CA, Nov 19, 2007 - Autodesk is releasing a new Frame Generator Customization Tool for use with the Autodesk Inventor 2008 family of software products.

What is the Frame Generator Customization Tool?

The Frame Generator Customization Tool allows users to quickly and easily add their own custom structural profiles for use with Inventor’s Frame Generator Tool. These custom shapes behave in the same way as the standard shapes provided, including placement and orientation and end treatment considerations.

Why was it created?

This new tool allows Inventor users to realize even more benefits from the frame generator environment and was one of the most requested features from users.

How does the tool work?

The creation of new useable profiles can be accomplished in 3 distinct steps:

  1. First, execute the Author and Publish step.  Author and Publish allows users to identify the profile to be added to the Frame Generator library, locate the default attachment location, and identify parameters that will be varied for different members of the profile family.
  2. Second, use the Content Editor command to export a data structure that you can use to prepare a data table that defines the different sizes of profiles.
  3. The third and final step is to import that data table so that all the new profiles are available to be added to your frame structures.

When will the tool be available?

The tool will be posted on Autodesk Labs on November 13, 2007.

How do I get the tool?

The tool can be downloaded from the Autodesk Labs web site: http://labs.autodesk.com/
